Hello, My name is Mrs. Kuhn. I am very
excited to have your child in my classroom this year. I earned my BS degree
from Ball State University. After college I moved to Lafayette, IN and taught
Kindergarten. I taught at Dayton Elementary school for 5 years before moving
to Shelbyville, IN. I live in Shelbyville with my husband Matt, our son
Jackson, and our daughter Leah.
I feel that students learn best in a
structured, hands-on, and loving environment where they are encouraged to
become independent thinkers. Children need to have child-based activities,
personal freedom, and choices to feel independent. Children also need to feel
comfortable with their environment. They will be able to speak their own
opinions when the environment is encouraging. Children want to feel that their
opinions are valued by others. Children also need to use the lifeskills we are
teaching here at Clark in order to be successful students. I believe that
these components will allow my students to become successful in their
educational pursuits which should allow them to become productive members of
society.
This year I will be using many methods
for my classroom instruction. For my reading I will be using the
Daily 5 method. For my writing I will be using a combination of 6+1Writing Traits
For Math I will be using a combination of Envision Math and hands-on
manipulatives. I will also be incorporating Science and Social Studies into
our curriculum.
